Gone Baby

“Gone Baby” is an acrylic and watercolor painting for Janice B. Wueste Studio by Judy Mason. It measures 48 by 60 inches. This abstract is deceptively simple; it seems almost akin to a graphic pattern. At first glance, the repeated rows of color do not seem to add up to anything more than a pleasing shape without representational meaning. However, on closer inspection, the viewer might observe that these rows actually depict the soil’s strata. The four stark lines, one blue, one red, two black, are actually parts of drilling rigs thrusting into the earth. And the green-blue-orange blend near the painting’s center is the dominant theme of this series—the oil itself. And now that it’s been found, it’s gone, baby.
