Steel Babies

Steel Babies

“Steel Babies” is an acrylic and watercolor painting by Janice B. Wueste Studio in collaboration with Judy Mason. It measures 48 by 60 inches. If you have ever been to West Texas, you know the scene: the pumpjacks toiling away tirelessly, night and day. There are many phrases used to describe the iconic machinery—oil horse, nodding donkey, rocking horse, dinosaur, grasshopper pump, Big Texan, thirsty bird, etc. This work evokes not only the strength and power of the pumpjacks, as well as the wealth they bring, but also their intrisic wistfulness, their melancholy beauty.
