There are many phrases used to describe the iconic machinery—oil horse, nodding donkey, rocking horse, dinosaur, grasshopper pump, Big Texan, thirsty bird, etc. This work evokes not only the strength and power of the pumpjacks, as well as the wealth they bring, but also their intrisic wistfulness, their melancholy beauty.
